Change the script

Housing, immigration, welfare, health, defence, science, innovation, education... and so on. There's a long list of things people need, want, hope for, and expect to access. Some believe governments should provide these services, others prefer government keep their noses out of their business, and their pockets. There's also a spectrum of more nuanced perspectives either side and betwixt those positions.

I've become increasingly frustrated with the divisive rhetoric of winners and losers, bludgers and rorters, entrepreneurial heroes, farmers and miners, and self-less (usually female, underpaid) care workers, tradies and "melbourne cafe owners" depicted in the media commenting on all the afore mentioned complexity, as some kind of ping pong match.

Imagine instead, we organised ourselves in such a way that human beings had the food, shelter, and sense of belonging that let them experience life with dignity? This also means caring for our habitats, and co-habitants too.

What might that look like in practice? Can we change the script?
